Somatic Presented National Employer Award!

Somatic was recently presented Canada’s Top Small & Medium Employers Award, placing us among the most “progressive and forward-thinking” organizations in our industry.

“We’re so proud to receive this recognition on a national scale,” stated President Gilbert Ghezesan. “It’s a reflection of our exceptional people who bring with them amazing attitudes and work ethics each day.”

“This award is especially meaningful as we place great value on our people and our culture,” added Vice-President Patrick Wu. “By taking care of our employees, and empowering them to work in a trusted, self-managed environment, they habitually go above and beyond for our clients.”

This 2020 award marks the third such award in Somatic’s 9-year history. We were also awarded BC’s Top Employer Award this year, as well as a previous BOMA Pinnacle Award for “Above and Beyond Customer Service.”

Canada’s Top Small & Medium Employers Award recognizes top small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that offer the nation’s best workplaces and forward-thinking human resources policies. Criteria included: physical workplace; work atmosphere and social; health, financial and family benefits; vacation and time off; employee communications; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement. Employers must have less than 500 employees worldwide, including employees at affiliated companies, and be a commercial, for-profit business.

Small and medium businesses represent 99.8% of all businesses in Canada, making SMEs the engine of the economy and vital to Canada’s prosperity.

Ongoing training, mentorship and social events greatly contribute to Somatic’s culture and success, explained Gilbert: “We constantly nurture and enjoy workplace friendships through group activities and events, and charity support with unwavering mutual respect. This comradery brings positivity and work ethics that other organizations can only dream of.”

On the training side, Somatic recently hired a Mechanical P.Eng to mentor two EIT employees, who will also become P.Eng’s within a few years. Somatic is also launching an electrical division to complement our commercial HVAC and plumbing services, which will provide employees additional career paths.

“We’re proud of our employees and the exceptional work we do,” said Patrick. “We appreciate the national recognition and will continue to deliver consistent and reliable workmanship throughout the communities we serve.”

About the Competition

Now in its 7th year, Canada’s Top Small & Medium Employers is an editorial competition that recognizes the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that offer the nation’s best workplaces and forward-thinking human resources policies. Canada’s SME sector is tremendously important to the nation and is responsible for: over half of the nation’s gross domestic product; over 90% of the private-sector labour force; and over 95% of the new jobs created in the past decade. Our 2020 winners were announced in a special magazine published in The Globe and Mail on June 5, 2020.
